In 1956, when he was eight or nine, he witnessed the Khan Yunis massacre, in which Israeli soldiers killed hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including his uncle, who was killed in front of him. The hospital is named after him.

Human beings defy being oppressed and will act against the oppressor, even when the odds of survival are hopeless as was seen with the American Indians. There is nobility in it. Americans now claim to feel remorse at what happened to the Indians. Based on the average American reaction to what Israel is doing, I don't believe it is sincere. We all have a love of justice, but material wealth as we have in America puts it to sleep.
