As soon as Hamas releases the hostages Israel will go back to murdering people, and Trump doesn't care.

"Go back" to murdering people. And Trump wants a "peace" prize. Heavens to Orwell!

The question in my mind is, how long can the English language endure such abuse?

Please remember that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, and even though I like the guy, I have to say he was nowhere near peaceful.

I hear you there. I don't expect any honesty from people jockeying for power, or from the institutions they are involved with. Unless somebody gets sloppy and accidentally makes an honest statement.

These days telling the truth is a malaprop.

As usual, the US does whatever Israel wants it to (which is always blocking any real end to the invasion and genocide) and blames Hamas for the lack of progress. Meanwhile Israel continues its Final Solution. Thanks, US. Your leaders belong behind bars.

I can’t imagine how this must feel for the Hamas negotiators and the Palestinian people. They are bending over backward, making concessions, negotiating in good faith with a bunch of liars and mass murderers who cripple their every effort. I can’t even bear to read this over and over - I can’t imagine what it must feel like for them

Israel is not going Ng to agree to a ceasefire or actually letting supplies into Gaza. Trump needs to pressure Israel. The US needs to STOP sending weapons to Israel. There needs to be an international force to guarantee aide gets in

Trump is another American leader tethered to AIPAC and donors such as Miriam Adelson. He's not about to do anything that goes against Israel.

Consider his shameless and cynical use of antisemitism as a political tool against any who disagree with him.

We call on the newly elected, US, Pope Leo XIV to do whatever it takes to save Gaza and stop the bombing, and end the starvation. Let him go to Gaza and stand with the suffering people who are being massacred by Israel and the Western posers. Is there anything more important in today's world than this?

In 2024, DAWN urged the ICC prosecutor to investigate and prosecute former President Biden, State Secretary Blinken and Defense Secretary Austin for their personal roles in aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Gaza as part of his ongoing investigation into the situations in Palestine since 2014.

Let’s give them our support. Maybe they will expand their complaint to include this latest US administration, and include all the leaders of the western nations supporting this genocide.

Suggestions for a context for Israel/US actions: Netanyahu sees himself as the emanation of Ariel Sharon with whom he was closely acquainted. Also, one needs to be very much aware of the Sabra and Shatila massacres in Lebanon in 1982. Hundreds of Palestinians had been forced out of their homes by violence from the Irgun and Hagannah, terrorists who bombed the King David Hotel, killing much of the British civilian and military leadership. They had become the Israeli army and infolded the Lebanese Phalangists into their cadre. US made an offer via Philip Habib that if Palestinian armed, militants would leave these refugee camps, that US would guarantee the safety of the medics, wounded and ill, women, children, elderly. Shortly, after the agreement was executed and armed Palestinians departed, the US abruptly withdrew from Lebanon and the Phalangists, aided and directed by the Israel army, massacred all those in the camps, destroying medical facilities, medics, the injured, wounded and ill as well as every elder woman, child and infant. Pictures of this massacre can easily be found on line and they are horrific. Sharon and Menachem Begin were "informed" but refused to stop it. Reagan refused to assign any accountability to Israel. Habib was awarded the medal of freedom for his efforts. Israel was thus assigned absolute and total impunity for any and all violent actions toward Palestinians. US has consistently played a strong and consistent role, especially in the UN/Security Council in enforcing that impunity. Any semblance of international law is/has been held in abeyance as regards Israeli violence for nearly 50 years; why would Netanyahu expect any change, particularly from the US who has provided extensive armament not only for the current destruction of Gaza, but for many earlier episodes, alluded to as "mowing the lawn" as Israeli planes strafe Gaza. The current atrocities and massacres in Gaza are seen as well within Israel's permit by US/UK/EU foreign policy, despite protestations of horror at the carnage which plays out daily in appalling videos on social media. Witkof is simply playing out Habib's earlier role - Hamas and Palestinians, however, have not forgotten the many treacheries of years past, knowing that neither Israel nor the US are agreement capable in these areas.

Such comprehensive knowledge such as yours and Martin's deserve a deal of respect. I am well left behind in these areas...almost thankfully if you understand my meaning. A lot of us are simply compassionate enough to lend our emotional voices, now, at present. In my case I had distanced myself from all politics and as much "news" as possible..no TV...an inability to listen to radio that increased with deafness, plus a lifelong resentment of authority. I used sit in my modest school staring at the shiny, near threadbare trousers of my teachers...who I now pity in retrospect, poor sods...wondering WHY they could send me into detention(rare) or scold me whatsoever...in fact I was a "stealth" rebel giving everyone little or no excuse to be in a position to "punish" me. Still am. But I always stood up against bullies. Still do! But what I wanted to relate in response to your long enlightenment, which I wholeheartedly accept, is that in the past conflicts which you have delineated so eloquently, there wasn't the social media...the means via mobile phone to reveal the atrocities etc; but saying that I appreciate that such "news" from the main players would be heavily censored or erased as happens now...except for the texting or filming that can't be totally controlled...yet! Perhaps these days more people with their hearts in the right place can be reached. Hope so. By the by..I don't have a mobile phone as it is like an ID card...I like to live as privately as possible in this modern era...I like to sit naked in a stream on the heath and THEY and nobody else knows that I am there! All the best.

What about returning to the 1967 borders, respecting international humanitarian law and a two-state solution?

Expand full comment
Martin Krisko's avatar

I get that’s what you want—but why would Israel do that?

Other than the meme line from Thor: “because that’s what heroes do.”

International law—especially humanitarian law—is toothless and always has been. The “international community” is mostly a façade.

It’s like the UN telling China to stop genociding Uyghurs. China would just shrug and say, “make me,” and… that’s it.

That’s the entire enforcement capacity of international law: nothing.

So why, as a government, would you ever do that?

Hi Martin...I note that Israel's opposition leader Yair Lapid has stated that recent celebrations were "violent and degrading"...it is difficult to see how Israel can degrade itself further but I am certain Israel can find a way.

Expand full comment
Martin Krisko's avatar

100%—they’ll absolutely find a way to degrade themselves further. The worst shit always happens right before the end, and honestly, I don’t even think we’ve seen the most disgusting part from Israel yet.

But that wasn’t really my point. What I’m saying is: why would Israel, especially with the U.S. backing it, give a single fuck about international law?

Take Morocco for example. They’ve been occupying Western Sahara since 1975, and there have been over a hundred UN resolutions calling for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination. Still, Morocco controls about 80% of the land, treats the locals like shit, and no one does anything. Not a single country officially recognizes their sovereignty there—and yet they just carry on, wiping their ass with the UN for over 40 years.

Or look at Azerbaijan. In 2023 they went in and wiped out Nagorno-Karabakh. Around 120,000 ethnic Armenians were forced to flee in basically a week. That’s textbook ethnic cleansing. They weren’t backed by the U.S. or China or Russia—just Turkey, and even that’s not a Security Council member. Still no consequences.

China? They’ve got over a million Uyghurs locked up in camps, forced sterilizations, re-education, labor camps—literal 21st-century genocide. And what has the UN done? Absolutely nothing. China just vetoes everything and moves on.

And Russia… come on. Between Chechnya, Crimea, and Ukraine, international law is basically a joke to them.

And the thing is, this isn’t rare. Right now, there are at least 10 ongoing genocides or ethnic cleansings happening worldwide. Myanmar, Sudan, Ethiopia, South Sudan, DRC, Cameroon—you name it. The UN condemns them all, and not a single perpetrator gives a shit.

So tell me again—why would Israel care?

Why would they comply with anything the UN says?

It might be morally nice, sure. But there’s no enforcement. No muscle. No actual consequences.

Just empty statements, some press coverage, and then everyone moves on.

The UN has no teeth. So really… who the hell cares what they say?

You are absolutely right in all that you reference...and obviously know a hell of a lot more than most of us...but Martin, this time, just maybe this time, with all the previous crap about Israel being a credible democracy (if there can be such a thing) and a bulwark against regional terror etc...that even those who speak out of both sides of their mouth as well as their arse will have to pipe down, review their ethics (doubtful), or just get the f...k out the way! We need your knowledge Martin so chime with some supportive words,Take Care.

Not because it has any bite.
