Under Roth's tenure, HRW was always being criticized for its "subjectivity" re: the zionist entity. It seems nothing has changed and this current expose, shows the depths of the zionist infiltration, of HRW.
Caveat: I can not back up this comment with evidence. It's based upon very old material that I am not able to call up. My conclusions may be wrong. But the current facts are not.
Many years ago I was told that HRW was an unreliable Human Rights organization because of close political and financial ties to the Foreign Affairs Council. The Foreign Affairs Council is chock full of important former US government diplomats, plenty with CIA ties who are biased in support maintaining US power in the world at all costs. Since that time I have avoided depending upon HRW sreports though some seemed reasonable. From this Drop Site report it seems that there were many principled people such as the two who resigned in protest working there. Another possibility is that the old info I received was correct but that the organizational leadership tried to maintain legitimacy and consistency by not straying too far off the truthful track. A current shift toward permissive impunity by HRC would be consistent with how the Democratic Party has been closely tied to Israel as a surrogate in the ME region while trying to appear as an "honest broker" but has now been replaced by Trump's all out unconcealed and unapologetic support for the apartheid and genocidal terrorism of Israel.
In either case it's ridiculously ludicrous for the new HRW director to claim that he didn't want to come in now and have to ride out a weakly evidenced report when what he's done is flagrantly undermine whatever international credibility HRW had built up, as well has his own. Whether my older info was right or not, HRW should not now be trusted and the controversy itself is plainly immoral and fraudulent because concern over whether the criminal violation of denial of right of return to millions of Palestine is technically a "crime against humanity" or just a violation of UN and international law causing vast suffering has been used prevent pointing out (once again) that Israel is nothing more or or less than a rogue ethno-terror state that should be expelled from the UN for its apartheid and genocide. HRW should be pointing out how Israel's genocide implicates the US in war crimes and crimes against humanity (now with another 6.6 billion dollars for killing civilians).
“We want to be able to show very compelling cases of great suffering or serious physical/mental injury. This likely will be strongest when people are living in extreme poverty or similar awful conditions or are clearly experiencing severe mental harm as a result of being denied the right to return,”
Nauseating. It seems that only some of the rank and file of HRW choose to recall that there are hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza today who wound up there by way of their brutal displacement and theft of their land, with enforced denial of return, by Zionists in 1948, in 1967, and in any year anyone might choose since. That the genocide in Gaza, opportunistically implemented under the egregious pretexts of 7 October 2023, is itself an implementation of the denial of return as a crime against humanity. And that, if such consequences as have been historically the case-- namely, mass murder, mass displacement, massive and systematic negation of elemental civil rights, and resulting subversion of the very conditions which sustain the life of a people-- are the inevitable result of ethnic cleansing, then intending ethnic cleansing means intending those consequences. I commend Mr. Shakir’s resignation as the one truly humane response available. Western human rights organizations have always backstabbed anticolonial liberation movements at political moments when those movements might have been aided by them most-- in my view, thereby fulfilling their predictable collaboration in structures of racist dominance.
It's true, the only just end to the horror of Zionism is for Israel to allow anyone to be a citizen and to end its existence as an ethnic supremacist state. The terrible tragedy of Palestine is entirely due to the fact that it is Jews who are doing the ethnic cleansing and the US is home to very wealthy and influential Jews who have been doing all they can for 77 years continuing right up to now to keep the crime against humanity going even as these US citizens enjoy the liberty and justice for all that they absolutely refuse to allow the Palestinians.
That Israel is The Jewish State allows the absurd red herring of "antisemitism in the US" to be attempted without it being called out for what it is, an effort to cover the atrocities committed by Israel to be deflected by conjuring up the image of the innocent Jews of Europe during the time of Hitler.
All of what I write here should be read with the understanding that it is Zionist Jews and not Jews as a group that are guilty of the horrors conducted since 1948. The Jews of Jewish Voice for Peace in the US are anti-Zionist. JVP shames non-Jewish Americans who are intimidated by the false charges of antisemitism instead of standing with JVP for liberty and justice for all. The members of JVP are the true Americans. Americans who will not stand with the Palestinians are definitely not true Americans.
Morality requires that all Americans, whether they are Jews or not, to answer the question: "are you for liberty and justice for all or for the atrocities of Israel that the American administration condones and supports in your name?"
The idea that no American Jew may be asked whether or not he/she supports Israel is absurd. This in particular because B. Netanyahu claims he and Israel stand for all Jews everywhere. No one with an ounce of morality can let that claim stand. Zionism is the antithesis of liberty and justice for all. There is no middle ground possible. To pretend there is only shows a person to be a hypocrite, as are Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer. Biden's traitorous declaration that he is a Zionist did not get a single challenge from American mainstream media, completely intimidated by Zionism.
Jew and gentile, we must together break the grip of Zionism on America to get back to liberty and justice for all. Do not vote for any Congressional candidate who will not pledge to never fund or supply Israel if elected. Work to get all the state anti-BDS laws repealed and do not hesitate to denounce any elected officials who stand with Israel. If you cannot do these things then don't claim to feel remorse for what the US did to the American Indians.
Another big piece of the truth is anti arab racism that goes back long before the state of israel. The betrayal of those trying to form the arab league after assurances from great britain during WWI forever altered that region and their opportunity for self determination.
American Jews are fully integrated into society and found in all professions. It is quite natural for non-Jewish Americans to support Israel because it is the project of a group whose members are known as neighbors, coworkers, professionals as "just like me" and this goes back to the time when Zionism was struggling to get Israel started.
Arab-Americans have, in contrast, not been anywhere near as numerous as Jews in America in addition to being dark skinned. Put the lack of personal familiarity with the racial difference and you get "not like me" from most Americans regarding Arabs.
This made Israel an easy thing to put over on Americans who in their lack of interest in the history of Zionism did not see it for what it has been, a duplication of the ethnic cleansing of the American Indians only in a far-away land. For white Americans, the Indians were absolutely "not like me".
Prejudice is inseparable from American attitudes toward Israel/Palestine let alone the innumerable presentations on the holocaust of so many American movies, TV shows, books, works of art that created understandable sympathy for Jews. Then add in well known well liked Jewish celebrities from Danny Kaye to Kirk Douglas and so many others.
Given all this it would have been a miracle if Zionism had not prevailed. Only now, 3/4ths of a century later, is the horror that is Zionism fully exposed by the last two years in Gaza and the absolute terror at work 24/7 in the West Bank. The job now is for America to break the mythological hold, the spell cast by Zionism and act according to the reality of the awful project by breaking off all support of it.
Drop Site, IMHO, is simply the best hard news outlet in the business right now, at least in the US. Status Coup's live coverage is outstanding, but these stories Drop Site keeps exposing are simply terrific reporting.
Can't say enough about these guys and grateful to be a subscriber.
Since this decision comes out of nowhere, I suspect HRW was either threatened with or afraid of being labeled a terrorist organization, and put under sanctions by the US. That would make it almost impossible to survive. Bank accounts frozen, no donations possible. Think of what happened to the ICC and Francesca Albanese. Israel has been working hard to destroy HRW
I mean I think you're obviously correct, but isn't the mask already off? They've blocked just about every single humanitarian organization from being in Palestine. I'm lest they agree to collaborate against the palestinians' best interests.
I think the mask is off and the world doesn't care. I think that's I think the problem with your theory is that your banking on people being human beings.
While reading this article, I could feel my blood start to boil with anger and frustration. The Palestinians seem to be trapped in a never-ending cycle of suffering, unable to catch a break or find relief from the constant hardships they face.
Although this report, coming from Human Rights Watch (HRW), is tremendously important and sheds much-needed light on the situation, it feels painfully clear that Israel will persist in imposing what many describe as genocide upon these poor, helpless people, individuals who are innocent and should never be subjected to such cruelty and dehumanization. It’s as if the world has spun completely out of control; I’m left feeling powerless and wishing desperately that there was something concrete I could do to help change things for the better.
Traditional forms of protest like demonstrations seem futile, they barely scratch the surface or influence those in power. Even movements like Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) have made only minor dents; yes, they have raised awareness and played a role in pressuring some institutions for change, but overall, nothing fundamental has shifted for those suffering on the ground.
Out of all 193 member countries at the United Nations, the supposed guardians of justice and human rights, only a handful demonstrate enough courage to challenge Israel or its powerful ally, the United States. Most nations remain silent out of fear of political or economic retaliation. It makes me question what has become of our most basic rights: our ability, and moral responsibility, to stand up for the oppressed and defend those in desperate need? The silence is deafening; it echoes a loss not just for Palestine but for humanity as a whole.
Ever since the Nakba (1948-49), Palestinians have been driven from their land and refused the right to return. Stealing over 60% of Palestine to create a Zionist abomination just has not worked. Israel is NOT a democracy - never has been. And the US, more than anyone else, created this monster. Born in the bloody Nakba. Terrorism, murder, ethnic cleansing, Apartheid, occupation, suppression.
West Bank settlers are worse than the KKK - burning cars, homes and over 50,000 100 year old olive trees.
More and more disillusionment about past reliable sources of information or the belief of it... how? Can all our sources of information and freedom of communication have been all corrupted?
Assuming they might not have been from the start. Which I still want to consider, as I have noticed over the years that the political drifts and ideas have shifted to less sustainable democratic ideals through the whole political spectrum, swallowing the new political economy religion of trickle-down magic and free market illusion. The corruption creep up there is easier to model. But how do the other things also get invisibly shifted?
This is outrageous. The elephant in the room that conveniently gets ignored is that the occupation is illegal per international law.: the 4th Geneva Convention is not ambiguous. The HRW blocking the report should be fired.
More important than ever! The work that the Hind Rajab Foundation is doing to track down and bring Israeli criminals to justice is one that is vital in the effort to hold Israel accountable. Let us hope they will also turn their sights on the criminal leaders of the countries of the west who are co-perpetrators of these crimes.

where there is power Mossad is there to impede criticism of the zionist apartheid genocidal state called Israel.
so a blind spot? is that hypothesis or where to find clues or evidence to support that?
The critics you mention maybe. so I can assess myself the confidence of such hypothesis?
I waste my time with such prudence, nothing personal. I have been systematically fooled and might have been made skiddy. cat and water something...
Time for HRW to go out of business. HRW is clearly anti-humanitarian!
Caveat: I can not back up this comment with evidence. It's based upon very old material that I am not able to call up. My conclusions may be wrong. But the current facts are not.

Yet another case of the coverup compounding the crime. And why my go-to source (along Drop Site) has been Francesca Albanese.
Once again, Israel is treated as a sacred cow.

All the more reason to stand firm.
Yes - think of the propaganda value of the zionists outright destroying HRW. It would be a serious "masks off" moment.
