Why is the world just allowing Netanyahu to blindly walk us into WW3??? Why is this war criminal so powerful. Most citizens in western democracies don't even like him. He is not a leader of any major western democracy. He's a corrupt politician and criminal at that.

Where are our safe guards, institutions and governments/leaders? That are supposed to stop this madness.

This is a systematic failure of western democracy. I really hope leaders around the world (especially elected left leaning leaders) step up and do their JOB. And STOP this madness.

MM, there is a reason for the power of Zionism in America. There is unlimited wealth from American Zionists to tap and the corruption of the US political system by Supreme Court rulings that have opened campaign spending in unlimited amounts to not only individuals but PAC's and even businesses mean Zionist wealth is fully released to buy seats in Congress within the law so much so that AIPAC boasts of electing members of Congress.

We are witnessing the climax of the "special relationship" that has America forgetting about liberty and justice for all in service to ethnic cleansing and ethnic supremacy by a tiny nation with 1/40th the population of the US. Democracy is meaningless when money is in control. The bold and boastful slaughter in Gaza with no apology, no end in sight and unlimited US support has brought the US to the lowest point in its history where it is not just willing to start wars but will sacrifice its national security, international law and the very foundation of its form of government for a foreign country that commands incredible wealth.

The only hope for the future is that this repulsive situation is rectified by breaking the grip of Zionism and ending the "special relationship" that has brought us to pariah status along with Israel. America being a puppet of Israel must end.

"The world" is not just "allowing" Netanyahu to walk the world anywhere. The rest of the world has arrest warrants out to try this person as a war criminal. Aren't two cartel parties who have allowed this regime to enact "loyalty" oaths on their citizens to the government of Israel in over 35 states the ones you need to put that question to, starting with your own federal representatives and your own state's governor?

Ed, you are right. Here in Illinois, the mayor of my city of Evanston is a Zionist and the Illinois state senator that represents my area is a Zionist. Both of them are intending to run for the seat of retiring US Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who is a Zionist. None of these will answer my question: "are you for liberty and justice for all or Zionism?"

That's not all. My state representative is a Zionist and she openly admitted it to me. Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker wants to be president and he is a Zionist. Rahm Imanuel, former mayor of Chicago, is a Zionist and he wants to be president. To be clear, I mean Zionist, not Jewish. Though all of the above are indeed Jewish there are many Jews who are anti-Zionist and I have stood proudly with them for over 25 years though I am not a Jew. Anyone who is an antisemite is a fool, the problem is Zionism, not Jews.

I have stood in front of a Zionist synagogue for 8 months now with sandwich boards as I fly a Palestinian flag and have invited rabbi and congregation to, as Americans, come out and stand with me for liberty and justice for all. Nobody has responded. About 800 cars an hour pass me and the positive response to my signs is many times the negative, though I have received a death threat.

I have a substack, see below, where I report on my vigil. Check it out. I am a retiree who wishes other retirees would get off their duffs and hit the sidewalk for our beloved country that is at the edge of disaster.

What is the world going to do? Many of the most powerful countries are profiting off this endless war on terror and buy weapons and spy technology from Israel to keep their own populations in check. China is selling drones to the Israelis and hasn't diversted from the zionists.

The leaders of the world aren't going to do a thing to rock the boat and risk the US sanctions and military destroying their countries. The Palestinians and Iranians are nothing to them. But wait, war will spill over into their countries, too if they don't act.

NOT ONE elected representative of either cartel political party has had the ethics or courage to stand up to Israel's Bibi Netanyahu and inform him that no one elected him to run the United States, run our universities, or run our international relations. NOT ONE. Ensuring Israel's existence and safety does not mean cowards from both parties can allow Israel to govern Americans.

Israel is a terrorist enterprise with a difference: it's armed and funded by us. Israel doesn't do ground wars, it assassinates and drops bombs. Including on nuclear enrichment sites, potentially causing catastrophic nuclear contamination. None of Israel's adversaries take seriously Israel's terrorist nature and none are ever as ruthless as Israel is. So they get away with whatever they decide to do. One thing is clear: the starvation of the Palestinians in Gaza will be intensified now. Israel is likely to just stop all provision of food, meager as it was. The Israelis would be in no position now to fight off military escorts of UN aid trucks but I can't see neighboring countries, or European countries, taking advantage of the current situation by doing anything to get food, medicine and water into Gaza. I really fear for the Palestinians, especially in Gaza but also in the West Bank where Smotrich has shut down the economy. As always, the Palestinians pay the highest price for Israel's aggressions.

A very astute analysis Julia...there is no doubt that Israel's arrogance in the Middle East and the US arrogance in the entire world is leading us all into a potential Apocalypse.

Expand full comment
julia's avatar

It's already an Apocalypse, isn't it, for Gaza, and very close to that for the West Bank. But I should have corrected "adversaries" to "neighbors" because once Israel attacks, invades and starts killing, of course you become an adversary to that. But Israel has simply been at war with its neighbors, coveting their land, ever since its founding.

I personally think Israel hates itself; after all, they know their own history better than anyone. I think this explains their obsession with destroying the United Nations. If they could achieve that, it would erase (in their delusional minds) the evidence that their country was created out of whole cloth by European colonial powers, to further the interests of those powers and certainly not to provide security for Jewish people. James Baldwin thought this and so have many others. It is now a completely militarized, extremely well armed outpost of Western power in the Middle East, including an undeclared and uninspected nuclear arsenal, and the danger it poses to regional and world peace couldn't possibly be greater.

Thank you, Murtaza, for this news-and-analysis report, which provides a comprehensive list of possibilities in the coming days, weeks, and months.

Trita Parsi is right in saying "“The Israelis are not just selling war to America, they’re selling endless war to America.” We may be about to follow the Pied Piper (Netanyahu) over the cliff...

We know that Netanyahu (and his war-mongering far-right hawkish circle) have always wanted to provoke Iran to retaliate, which would leave no choice for America but to join Israel's war. (Needless to say, this is why the Israel lobby has always ensured the White House and Congress are bought and paid for.)

But we need to have hope and this may come from an endless war that pushes the American public and many in Congress to get a moral backbone and then cut that umbilical cord with Israel and let them determine their own fate.

As Bibi maneuvers Trump and the US into another endless war, maybe the American public will finally wake up and realize that allying with Israel is not in our interests (Christian zionists excepted, of course.) But whether they'd vote the AIPAC slaves who represent them out of office is a different matter. Trump ran on a platform of getting us out of the wars we are in and not starting any new ones, but we all know that Trump's promises mean nothing.

You'd think the Israelis would be sick and tired of Bibi by now - making war on defenseless Gaza is one thing but this move could have serious consequences for them.

I fear the israelis will only be sick and tired of Bibi when they lose the cushy way of life our tax dollars have enabled them to enjoy. If you believe the polls, almost 60 percent of them think Bibi is not being tough enough. My Jewish friends are horrified at the genocide in Gaza but it is Hamas they blame - not Bibi thus when they do speak out, there is not an outcry against Zionism or AIPAC and almost every one of them is a secular Jew with no real skin in the game. But they know an anti=semite when they meet one and surprisingly one looks a lot like me.

George Orwell was absolutely correct when he wrote about ENDLESS WARS in 1984. What he could not have predicted is that these wars, genocide, crimes of every description, gratuitous violence in every aspect of our lives would be live streamed into our homes via the internet. I fear for future generations that will have to deal with the results of this human carnage and ecocide.

Netanyahu's legacy is the destruction of the ethical basis of internation law including civil rights, human rights and even the right to life. It's made a precedent for other regimes to act with impunity. It's back to the law of the jungle. It will be less than a generation before its neighbors reach defensive parity. It's unfortunate that the U.S. came under the sway of the European immigrants to Palestine in 1948 against the advice of 20 prominent Jewish Americans including Einstein in their letter to the NYT in December of 1948. The settlers had and still don't have any respect for the indigenous and by the way Semitic peoples and have been a blight on the region ever since.

This is the 2nd time Netanyahu has tried to get us into a war and has finally succeeded. The first was under the Obama administration when without our permission the Stuxnet virus was released and attacked Iran's nuclear site, after assassinating one of their scientists. The result was Iran's cyberattack on our banks. An eye-opener on the is the "Zero Days" documentary by Alex Gibney. Seldom mentioned is that Israel has had a nuclear arsenal for decades--about a 100+ missiles and is one of the few countries that has not signed the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty--which means denial and no inspections. Contrary to the lobby's propaganda there are no saints in the Middle East. Until this undo influence is stopped our national security is at even greater risk.
