Drop Site obtained the draft of a deal currently being pushed by the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar. Hamas insists it will not capitulate to Netanyahu’s new demands.
It all just breaks your heart into pieces. You dont have to be a Palestinian to feel the pain. How much can a people endure? How far will the world let Israel go, just because once they suffered greatly? Do they get a free pass for the rest of history? Carol Benson
Excellent piece of journalism. Netanyahu said the three-phase deal would be abandoned with Trump's approval after the first phase and it turned out he wasn't lying. So, this tells you Witkoff is not negotiating in good faith and the US is not negotiating in good faith. Indeed, as in the Russia-Ukraine SMO, the US is a co-belligerent and should not be in the position of a negotiator.
Israel and most of the Western world continues to use the Jewish holocaust as the justification for a Palestinian holocaust. This is a moral atrocity! It must never be allowed to happen!
There's just one thing everyone needs to keep in mind: Israel will do NONE of the things it promises. They have never honored a ceasefire in their lives.
Thank you for all the details. How about Hamas accesses their own team of negotiators from other countries, possibly South Africa, Ireland, Columbia-- countries that believe in self determination? Possibly hold the negotiations @the Hague. US/ISr clearly are not mediating; they obviously have no concern for hostages or humanity in general, & are just playing monopoly.
But, clearly, if it is held in The Hague, there are some who would be very skittish in going there for fear of having an extended holiday in The Netherlands.
Thank you for this excellent and informative article. There is indeed a way out of this destructive impasse that the Palestinians are continuing to live through. The UN General Assembly are planning a June Peace Conference to pursue a 2 State Solution. Unfortunately, Israel is continuing to do everything it can to undermine such a process and outcome.
Meanwhile, according to this article, “Hamas has repeatedly told U.S., Egyptian, and Qatari mediators it would accept a comprehensive deal that would include the immediate release of all Israeli captives held in Gaza, in return for an end to the war, lifting of the blockade, and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Known as an “all for all” resolution, the plan would also include the release of a large number of Palestinians held by Israel and a long term truce, known in Arabic as a hudna, that would span at least five to ten years.”
“As part of this proposal, Hamas would officially step down as the governing authority in Gaza and allow an independent technical interim body run by Palestinians to administer the territory during a transitional phase of reconstruction ahead of a return to democratic elections. Hamas would still refuse to surrender its weapons unless a Palestinian military force capable of defending Gaza is established.”
So there’s the solution. The Arab States, other supportive governments and the whole international community ought to tell Israel forthright that they need to agree to this proposal as written, except that the security force that replaces Hamas should initially be an international peace keeping force that over time is replaced by Palestinians that is not controlled by Hamas and continues to include an international presence.
In the meantime, both before and after the peace conference, there is plenty that the international community can do to demonstrate to Israel that they are serious and that Israel will have to go along with the proposal. This would include economic sanctions, boycotts, humanitarian convoys that are accompanied by international armed security personnel, the beginning of the effort to create and establish an international peace force, full support for the UNRWA, threat to suspend Israel’s membership in the UN General Assembly (as authorized under the UN Charter), holding an increasing number of Israel’s military and government officials accountable for their actions under international law, etc.

I understand why you purpose an international peacekeeping force instead of Hamas to own Gaza security. However, which country would participate in such a peacekeeping force knowing that these peacekeeping troops would almost certainly be fired upon, even bombed, by the IDF, which would claim this being collateral damage? Only Palestinians themselves, and perhaps the Houthis, are brave enough to stand up to Israel. Let's face the facts.
It would have to be done with the backing of a group of countries (such as the Arab states, a few European, and a couple of others such as South Africa) and be combined with the threat of sanctions, boycotts, possible suspension from UN membership. and certainly Israel being told that the settlements or at least settlers were going to be removed as well, and this Palestijnians given a contiguous area of land in the West Bank etc whether the Israelis like it or not; and that they can either negotiate in good faith and abide by international agreements or instead just live with what is decided for them by others. When the Israelis are told that they have to live with what is forced on them, like they have been doing to the Palestinians for decades, then we will start to see some sanity in the Middle East The US did it to Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no reason that other countries couldn't do it to Israel in order to ensure that they will finally have to abide by international law and a just and moral solution.
I have no idea why our government doesn't put demands on Israel.
* stop the genocide*
This article states clearly what Hamas wants: a free Palestine. And Elected Palestinian government with its own security forces. In return Israeli citizens can go back to being a apathied Zionist society of Jews. The 20% of non jewish Israelis would be on their own to defend for themselves their rights and liberties living in a Jewish state.
So stop the killing now and each state stay on their own side of the border. And eventually open the border for work and commerce and travel.
What's so hard to understand about the US government's inaction? They simply don't care about the legitimate interests of one side of the conflict. They just want the bad press to end, but they want this without paying the price. You can also observe the same pattern in the Ukraine conflict.
DAWN has urged the ICC prosecutor to investigate and prosecute former President Biden, State Secretary Blinken and Defense Secretary Austin for their personal roles in aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Gaza as part of his ongoing investigation into the situations in Palestine since 2014.
Let’s give them our support. Maybe they will expand their complaint to include this latest US administration, and include all the leaders of the western nations supporting this genocide.
The Hind Rajab Foundation has filed a request for prosecution in the United States against Yuval Shatel, an Israeli soldier accused of serious violations of international humanitarian law during Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
The request, which outlines the evidence and criminal charges against Shatel, was submitted to both the U.S. Department of Justice and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and calls for Shatel’s immediate arrest and prosecution under U.S. federal law for:
War crimes under 18 U.S.C. § 2441
Conspiracy to commit war crimes under 18 U.S.C. § 371
Genocide and conspiracy to commit genocide under 18 U.S.C. § 1091

To know more about The Hind Rajab Foundation, there are a couple of really good interviews that Glenn Greenwald did on his Rumble platform, and Ali Abunimah of the Electronic Intifada, did with the head of this organisation, Dyad Abou Jahjah. It was very informative.
Here's a petition calling for accountability for the arrest of Ali Abunimah in Switzerland for the crime of speaking about Palestinian rights:
The greatest and most dangerous fallacy still existing in this world is that unilateral national defense is in any way feasible as a means of avoiding war, deterring war, or "winning" war; rather, without the reformation and strengthening of some such agency as the UN, the more the international system expands its offensive and defensive capabilities, the more likely the outbreak of an irreversible catastrophe. Jeremy, thank you for this excellent report.
It clearly confirms my thoughts- nobody, besides Hamas, is actually "negotiating" in good faith.
Nobody, besides the families affected, actually gives a damn about the hostages.
No government, besides Yemen, gives a damn about the Palestinians.
However, large masses of people across the world do care.
How can we make the war mongers listen?
Thomas I love your comment.
This is nothing bur RACISM.
There's just one thing everyone needs to keep in mind: Israel will do NONE of the things it promises. They have never honored a ceasefire in their lives.
Outstanding piece of journalism!
SO do tell me everyone: Is this any different from what the USA wants from Iran in the name of Zionism.
Lay down your 'arms' Hamas and Iran!
Meanwhile the great WHITE supremacists will bomb the hell out of you.
NOT much new here: White Imperialists cannot abide the fact that 'white' people are losing.
THIS is NOTHING but racism.
