For 9 months, the Balkan nation has been rocked by mass protests against the rule of Aleksandar Vučić. A short documentary chronicles the roots of the crisis.
This was excellent. Very moving and inspiring. I am embarrassed to say I hadn’t been paying attention to Serbia and this student led rebellion. It brought me to tears and filled me with hope. I am of Slovenian background and I feel very strongly that this has been a long time coming. The young people will lead us out of this hopelessness with their courage and idealism for a better fairer world. The open corruption and authoritarianism is spreading and must be extinguished. The only way for this to happen is that people need to care. The love and caring in this movement is central to its strength.
to me this feels like stage 1 of a colour revolution orchestrated by the west. for starters the language re the serbian president being a dictator and tyrant - however it appears he was voted in with 60% in the last democratic election of the votes so hes hardly a usurper.
Sure the building collapse was tragic but thats 1 incident.. The continuing nature, scale and coordination of the protests seems suspicious 2 me.
id suggest people read /view to Alex Krainers recent utube interview where he briefly discusses current western/ UK efforts 2 destabilise this region via the usual well funded propaganda and protest NGOs. I think he provides more clarity and a bigger picture re this
Having been "voted in" is not the measure of whether or not a president is a dictator, and there's nothing suspicious about using the words "dictator," and "tyrant," to describe a tyrannical dictator. Especially a freak-show like Vučić, who encourages psychos to drive cars into people.
It's a lie, to claim that an uprising against corruption, is about "1 incident." But I suppose it's not easy to fabricate a defence for the indefensible; a tyrant, who responds to a student uprising, by vowing, "I'll destroy you across the world!"
People don't start a mass movement over just one incident. The corruption is plain to see. So is the tyranny. So is the habitual lying.
Only a tyrant would attack protesters with a sonic weapon... and then claim not to have a sonic weapon... and then get caught in that lie, because his sonic weapon is parked at the parliament building.
Corruption & lack of accountability result in more than shoddy construction; students have been brutalized. Repeatedly. I believe you know that.
No western agitator is needed, to tell you that your police force shouldn't attack you, beat you, and fire weapons at you. No western agitator is needed, to tell you that your president shouldn't send thugs, with baseball bats, to break a girl's face. Your comment implies that that girl, needs a western influence, to tell her to be angry. SHE DOESN'T.
Describing rampant corruption, habitual lies, a total absence of accountability, repeated violent abuses of power, and LITERAL GOON-SQUADS, as "1 incident," doesn't validate the dictator; it invalidates the person who's trying to validate the dictator.
You said you were suspicious that the protesters' language wasn't really their own, right after you parroted your dictator's "colour revolution" language.
I'd suggest people listen to Serbia's youth. And respect the elders who bake for them and/or cry with pride & hope, when they see their youth stand up for integrity & community.
Thanks for your response. Im always happy 2 b pulled up if ive got a perspective wrong, thats what i like about the comments section.
I share ur disdain 4 autocracies and thuggish behavior. You need only look at violence & repression meted out 2 anti genocide protestors in western countrues 2 b truly appalled.
What clouds the issue 4 me is Vucic's enduring popularity as measured by a variety of independent polls, which is largely unchanged from the last election.
Surely if he was such a monster, hated by the people, this would be reflected in polls as it is for say Zelensky in Ukraine.
Since this is not the case ( according 2 wikipedia anyway), it led me 2 suspect a clearly well funded and well organised protest movement against an apparently popular political party may have a whiff of regime change about it esp as its a non NATO country.
Anyway happy 2 b enlightened if my understanding isnt correct.
