What is the relationship if any, between Al-Shabab in Somalia and the organisation led by Yasser Abu Shabab who the IDF has armed and used as human shields in Gaza?
For a well-researched, authoritative account of how ham-handed, ill-advised intervention in Somalia by the U S gave rise to Al-Shabaab, read Jeremy Scahill's book, Dirty Wars.
1. Just how many foreign entities have armed forces in Somalia? The article mentions italy (the “former” colonizer), the u.s., türkiye, the African Union, & in the recent past Ethiopia. Who else?
2. Very telling that “extreme” & “extremist” is used to describe opponents like Al-Shabaab but never the current government or the u.s., which has carried out attacks on a similar scale. Also that the u.s.-backed torture is only “alleged” while other violence is stated as fact.
3. While I may wish they were carried out by different people for different reasons, I rarely will be upset about an attack on a prison.
Really interesting article, and as others have said here you don’t hear about this sort of story in mainstream media. Would love to see more articles like this covering events in different African nations.
What an important story you don’t hear about in the mainstream media.
Thank you for discussing things I have no real knowledge about!!!
Is Al Ashabad Popular with the people? If so, why?
Thank you for publishing the news that no one else seems to be able to publish. Drop Site is a source of information that I trust
