March 18 2025: midnight in Palestine-night before ceasefire: From me in San Francisco, California:
As it always has,
The first blue California Lilac has begun to bloom over David’s fence.
It is a fence between old neighbors, green and dilapidated, but buttressed, standing -
The green soft wood has its own kind of beauty-meant for passing over plants, and songs and invitations-
Neighbors who share, and care, whose laughter and sadness is not entirely contained.
My happy grandaughter understands that love crosses fences, that is the way.
At 3 she does not remember the shower of blue petals that come in later spring.
I light candles for the children of Gaza: may they live to receive showers of petals and the love of their neighbors.
