A new survey finds the anti-genocide Platner with a blistering lead over sitting Gov. Janet Mills. Our correspondent finds the energy on the ground matches the numbers in the spreadsheet.
Speaking as a former lifetime Democrat voter, the Party is a vicious attack dog willing to chew off the legs of anyone who does not comply with their corrupt agenda. They long ago made the choice that it is better to lose to the opposition party than to lose to a true, left-leaning, liberal or socialist. Losing is still winning as long as you hold down the fort. Mamdani and Platner (and Bernie) make this crystal clear.
It’s refreshing to see reporting that actually highlights the voices of Maine voters rather than just the national media narratives. Mistakes from the past shouldn’t automatically define someone if they acknowledge them and demonstrate growth—and it seems Platner is making that effort while focusing on issues that matter to real people, like democracy reform and social accountability. Worth paying attention to how grassroots engagement is shaping this race.
Thanks, that was the goal: get opinions from actual Maine voters going to these town halls. I'm based in Waterville and can say I've never seen a turnout for any event like the one for the Platner held last Thursday.
Smearing the opposition is not tlking about the platform... It AVOIDS talking about changes which must be made. I agree with the majority of Mainers,,, Platner is more likely to act on necessary changes than the establishment candidate... I agree with his priorities.
I'm moving to Maine. I live as a 75 year old European American female, first in WY; then in SD; now in SC. My relatives and a great many people I meet (the majority, I fear) are afraid of me. Therefore they echo what they hear / see / read in popular media, attacking me and what they have been told I stand for. Attitudes attributed to potential Maine voters in this story are so refreshing. Almost reminds me of my teen years, marching against the Vietnam War in the state represented by the honorable US Senator Gale McGee. Good times! Frightening future.
I've got a weekly donation to the Prop 50 campaign in CA, but as soon as that election passes, I'm transferring that money to Platner. No more party-picked, geriatric losers.
The only politicians without a past are those who decided at the age of 12 that they wanted to go into politics. And those are precisely the people who will not represent you once they get into office.
as others have said, if this guy wins in spite of all of this, it could blow the doors off the status quo in the democratic party - at least until he strokes out and goes mecha-fetterman or something similar
If he can make it through the primary, he has a real shot at flipping conservatives here in his favor. It’s in the article, but he converted a libertarian at the event last night. Platner has unique potential to do this.
Every piece of mail that I receive from thr DSCC gets thrown in the trash.
I am not a Maine voter, but Platner comes across as candid and ready to go to work for ordinary Mainers and other Americans.
That the DSCC seriously thinks that running a 77 year old candidate is a winning bet just reinforces for me that the Democratic party leadership needs a deep housecleaning. Schumer, Pelosi, frankly everyone over 70 ought to announce that they will not run for re-election and I strad will recruit and mentor younger Democratic candidates.
Thank God we have people willing to run on an anti-genocide platform. Perhaps the party will hear the voters---finally.
Not sure we want to ban stocks and bonds, but there is plenty of reform needed on Wall Street...after we decide as a country that all people deserve dignity, and human rights and remember that genocide is always wrong.
I liked and admired Platner when he first came to my attention. After finding out that he's human, and has made mistakes, and, rather than trying to cover them up, deals with them head-on, I like him even more.
I don't really doubt that centrist dems don't want this person to win, but the idea of any u.s. politician being “anti-genocide” is almost as laughable as believing those same politicians' campaign promises. Bragging out serving in the u.s. military isn't a radical stance.
Of note, the DNC and AIPAC Darling Democrat US Rep. Jared Golden from Downeast Maine is currently losing in polls to former-governor Paul LePage. Just in case you want a reality check on whether Mills and crew can defeat Collins.
Very up lifting articule. Platner a breath of fresh air from Maine.
That's certainly how a lot of people here feel!
Thank you for covering this story.

Proud of him, proud of Mainers, eff everyone (establishment Dems) trying to ruin a good thing (as per usual)

He's looking to ban stock trading for elected officials in congress, that has to come to an end. It's essentially just insider trading.

Yup, sins of our youth to that add the testosterone effect of youth and its a surprise any of us survived.
The bad guys are in Isreal doing their genocide colonialization thing. They don't have nazi tattoos but do have the genocide of the unpure down pat.
