It is time for Hamas and Palestine to either quit the negotiations with the current group or quit hoping for good results from them and instead focus on developing a strategy with a group of major supportive countries that will insist upon and put in place the conditions needed to end the genocide and occupation and begin to actually implement the 2 State Solution now. I have many well developed suggestions for how this could be effectively done. Action needs to be taken now so that the international community can show Israel and Palestine during the June UN peace conference that they are serious and are truly going to do what is needed to end these atrocities and truly support peace in the region and real security for all peoples in the Middle East. Do you have any idea on how to get the over 140 Illegal Israeli Settlements out of the West Bank and 12 illegal Israeli Settlements out of East Jerusalem? Currently there are over 700,000 Israeli Settlers living in these illegal settlements. Israeli scattered these illegal settlements in a way that makes it impossible to give the Palestinians a contiguous peace of land for a Palestinian State.
High-level Israeli officials are openly acknowledging that they are expanding settlements (22 new settlements announced in May) to increase Israel's control over the area and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. Israeli administrative control over Area C (60% of the West Bank) is also increasing. Israel and the U.S. government have no real interest in any kind of long-term ceasefire arrangement or two state solution. I firmly believe that Israel (and the U.S.) feel like now is the time to proceed with total/near total annexation of Palestinian lands. They are more than willing to weather all the criticism and accusations from other governments as well as the charges from the international courts (which will likely amount to nothing). Though many of us are expressing our outrage with all of this, there are too many influential people in this country who are choosing to remain silent. I believe with Rob's comment above that the idea of the US brokering any legitimate solution is unlikely and that some other countries need to work together to actually make something meaningful happen. Also, the US will never acknowledge that Israel is an apartheid state, which really dilutes any chance of us (the US) affecting any positive, long-term change.
I also saw that Israel is planning to build 22 new illegal settlements. Israel is at least honest as to why the 22 new illegal settlements were approved. This does prove that the US and Israel have no interest in a two state solution.
