You don't fight a "war" with a publicly declared deadline upon it. A real war is an existential battle for your existence as a independent nation (just ask our vassals Japan or Germany). If you can afford to play games with deadlines, you can obviously afford to lose, and your "war" is in no way "existential." In that case the U.N. charter (which was ratified by the Senate and hence is U.S. law) makes it very clear that you have no right to fight, since it's not "self defense." And if you have no right to fight and your leaders make you do it anyway, then they're the aggressors and the only resolution you should pass must call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for turning your leaders over to the ICC to face justice. Full stop.

Who would have ever thought that 3.5 billion dollars yearly allocated to Israel would be used to effectively own the US Congress? The DNC ruled out the public release of their inquiry into 2024 election losses (again) to Trump. With the exception of a few handfuls of Representatives and Senators, that influence is very much alive in the halls of Congress.

"Anti-war advocates have thus openly speculated whether the Democratic establishment would **deliberately allow the war to drag on in order to benefit the party politically** in the 2026 midterm elections."

Disgusting to think they'd be so pathological.

I wonder if the establishment Democrats remember the devastating blow of the 2024 election? Or if they take seriously their own postmortem of said election disaster which demonstrated that Biden & Harris support for Israel's genocide was a significant factor in their defeat?

Is it possible they don't even care about winning? That they'd rather be the "I'm sorry" party and still reap the "benefit" of power?

I can't imagine the turnout for Democrats being enough to defeat MAGA in any election for the foreseeable future. The Democratic establishment so far refuses to learn from its own mistakes. Or simply, does not care.

The Democrats can't seem to kick the habit of their addiction to AIPAC money.

Trump-peace-promises

“I’m not going to start wars, I’m going to stop wars.”

“We’re going to end these endless wars.”

“We will turn the page forever on those foolish, stupid days of never-ending wars. They never ended.”

“I will expel the warmongers from our national security state… and stop the war profiteering.”

“He [his predecessors] sent our blood and treasure to back regime change in Iraq, regime change in Libya, regime change in Syria and every other globalist disaster for half a century.

“We believe that the job of the United States military is not to wage endless regime-change wars around the globe, senseless wars. The job of the United States military is to defend America from attack and invasion here at home.”

“These endless wars keep going and going, people getting killed all over the place, spending billions and billions.”

“There must be a complete commitment to dismantling the entire globalist neocon establishment that is perpetually dragging us into endless wars, pretending to fight for freedom and democracy abroad…We should have never gone into the Middle East. Under my leadership, we will turn the page forever on those foolish, stupid days of never-ending wars…. Stupid, senseless, endless wars…”

He didn’t just start saying those things in 2024 either. In 2019 he said, “Lindsey Graham would like to stay in the Middle East for the next thousand years, with thousands of soldiers, fighting other people’s wars. I want to get out of the Middle East.” In 2013 he said, “The US should stay out of Syria.” In 2011, “The United States spent $2 trillion in Iraq and thousands of lives. Now we’re bombing Libya and giving aid to rebels. What are we doing?” And in the mid-2000s, “We should never have been there [Iraq].”

“I’m not going to start wars, I’m going to stop wars.”

Betrayal, Refusal, and the Yes that Follows

We don't have to win (when have we ?). We only have to churn $$ for the merchants of death and their bribes to our Congress.

Thank you for compiling this list of Trumps peace promises. It is very helpful to be able to know & share these exact examples.

The quote of Trump describing Lindsey Graham's persistent advocacy for staying at war in the Middle East, and Trump's then declared opposition to it is like a photo that communicates many levels of incongruence & strategic, if not malevolent, self-serving dishonesty, and conscious disloyalty to the Constitution/fellow americans.

Actually, I should have attributed that list. Here’s where I got it from:

I like the word "abhorrent". Do the Trumpets understand that the people feel the current leadship is out of control and stupid.

Vote out any one who supports war in any way, shape or form. Vote them out now, or in the near furture or distant. War advocates must go. Those who pretend to not like war but actually use tactics to prolong it must also go!!

Not needed. People already despise that Republicans cannot stop this insanity because they are afraid of the Administration's ability to herd them like cattle off a cliff. Voters will not be voting for them. They may as well stop this illegal war and saying that supporting it was mistaking USA motives in error. Opps! That will get them more votes than siding with more money for war profiteers and cowardly Congressmen and women... Those streams of corruption will dry up, too.

Elizabeth's avatar

Problem is though...Many Dems decry it, but then vote to fund it. Most of the Dems (I was flabbergasted & then horrified) joined in the standing ovations for Netenyahoo. So, we need to research incumbent Democrats & those running for office to ascertain if they are receiving donations from orgs. (some are Chrisitian-zionist org) that support Israels's war & genocide on Palestine (& now ethnic cleansing, ordering Lebanese people to leave their homes).

Karen Ashikeh LaMantia's avatar

Very accurate assessment and no secret plan. It has been spoken of for decades, the Isreli take-over of other nations, many of which have been in existence as long as ancient Syria, Lebanon and Jorden. Iran and Afghanistan are Persian and Pakistan is newly formed, like Israel, by colonial powers. Iran is a strong and ancient, though it has a controversial government that many of its people wish to change, as it is their right to advocate for this, as US citizens do now, in the USA. Will we get it with this war? Maybe in the US, with a real change in Legislative power in 2026. Will Iran? Probably not, though its people will not give up their fight toward justice and equality. Will Israel get what they want? Most probably not, at all. Without USA support, which will mean the end of Trump and his incompetent minions, Israel, as it is now, may not survive. With what it has become, in a genocidal attempt to expand power, not its potential for good, it is already destroyed, by its own actions.

Our Democratic and Republican apparatchicks skirmish among themselves, spit-balling solutions to war. At another location, Dear Leader, Hopalong Hegseth, and our dippy diplomats blow smoke to win with lies. Except Tyler Simmons' last words didn't cop, Hoppy, and the svelte all-in-black Iran ambassador didn't crawl. Trump may confuse Machiavelli with Matchabelli.

Dav Cer's avatar

Greater Israel is the Zionist version of LEBENSRAUM.

And Trump lies, as usual, claiming it is Iran who wants to "take over" the mid-East.

Who attacks all of it's neighbors for decades ? Who is committing Genocide ? Who has invaded Lebanon and built 5 military bases there ? Not Iran (until the recent response to US and Israeli unprovoked attacks on Iran, anyway).

I appreciate your challenging questions...I often have a difficult time organizing & calling up facts I know in response to false declarations, and this is a helpful

structure to follow.

Also, thanks for adding a new word to my vocabulary...I had to look up LEBENSRAUM, and enjoy being able to exchange a many words description for a pithy single word .

Hi Elizabeth. Thank you for your notice ! I'm 75, first arrested my Sophomore year at Auburn in 1970 demonstrating against Viet Nam. Graduated HS in '68 - many boys I went to school with died or were crippled in Viet Nam. I still don't know what for. Senseless wars, one after the other, have put this country deep into debt while we don't even have decent healthcare.

Check out my substack page: https://davcer.substack.com/publish/posts/published

You may want to check out the Warsaw Ghetto. Like LEBENSRAUM, another obvious similarity to the Zionist/ Nazi treatment of Palestinians/ Gaza.

Cynicism and nihilism seem to be a plague of our decaying democracies

At least in the encroached alternating in power political machines. The left never having resounded the democratic deconstruction piece by piece for decades in best case of wrapped some Orwellian language around the policies in the same direction

Why would this not be about war policies too. The only un-doged branch of government same for police.

Insecurity begetting insecurity seems good for business

I see nukes on the ground before troops on the ground......that's why we need to stop funding this war now.

Ed Nuhfer's avatar

So, we are going to sacrifice our own soldiers' lives and kill thousands more children and civilians so Bibi can turn Lebanon into an open air prison like Gaza and seize their land too? Because bribed Democrats like convicted felon Henry Cuellar calculate that backing this might embarrass Republicans???

If there is a hell, there must be a special place reserved in it for such ghoulish calculating monsters. No damned wonder people are continuing to resign from this Democratic Party.

James Staudt's avatar

We have made following the Constitution something that is optional, rather than the law of the land.

As I recently heard David Hogg state, the Democratic Party leadership is “addicted to losing.” Chuck Schumer and Hakim Jeffries would prefer to keep their position within the party than actually have a governing coalition.

I’m convinced that they actually like what Trump is doing, and not just the war. It’s virtually everything. They share the same donor base with Trump, and their donors are important to keeping their party leadership positions since fundraising plays such an important role in getting support for their leadership roles.

Norman Finkelstein lived in the same neighborhood as Schumer; he was 4 yrs behind Schumer in the same high school. 'Wasn't a friend or close, but they share same background/neighborhood area; knew Schumer's sister a bit (b/c her boyfriend was Norman's best friend).

In the interview linked below, Norman gave an interesting, in-depth critique of Schumer's book, "Antisemitism in America...A Warning."

Toward the end of the interview, Norman put Schumer's March 2024 speech (which included his disapproval of Netty's treatment of the Palestinians & a nod to Netty being relieved of PMship), together with the negative outcomes after Schumer's speech, (his donars were furious abt he speech and Netty remained PM)as the sole

reasons Schumer wrote the book...Per Norman, "Schumer had bet on the wrong horse," ..."he wrote the book for his donars," ie, to get back in their $$good graces$$.
