I don't think there has been a "meeting of the minds". I think Trump realizes that the rescue mission was an exorbitantly expensive, but lucky, operation. He didn't imagine losing a half-dozen aircraft and the losses have not been completely reported. He thinks by calling a truce, amnesia will set in about what he he hasn't achieved.
