So you don't think it was the right thing for the world community to give the Jews a safe homeland after WWII? Or you don't think it should have the part of Palestine we now call Israel?
The problem with having chosen that area is that it was not barren. "Palestinians" (nomads, mostly) lived there, and 1M of them were displaced to make room for the "Israel" part. And at that, even though they were given the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, illegal settlements in those areas were erected, Palestinians were attacked, and no one stopped the Israelis who were encroaching.
Other areas, besides that part of Palestine were considered, but under heavy lobbying from Theodor Hertzl, the Israel part of Palestine was chosen. I don't have a huge complaint about that, and if the new Israelis were proud of their new home (were Zionists), and didn't bother the Palestinians, I think a lot of people wouldn't have any complaint.
It's also fair to say that a number of parts of the Middle East were carved up into new countries after WWI, and there was a great deal of resentment toward the "West," and that resentment got translated into antiZionism once there was an Israel.
No Fred, it's zionism!
