I don’t understand it either. I struggle with feelings of alienation, even from close friends and relatives. They are decent normal people who somehow manage to block it out. I’m not able to block it out - I refuse to act as if everything is normal - which leaves me deeply distressed but with my self-respect mostly intact.
Wait, what are you talking about? There are 8 billion people on Earth — most of them have way bigger and more immediate problems to deal with. You think some poor farmer in Thailand, or a family in Congo, Ukraine, South Korea, the Philippines, Poland, Brazil, etc., has the luxury to make Gaza or any foreign conflict their top priority?
Would you be pissed at Eritrea for accepting Russian grain during the Ukraine war? I’m absolutely pro-Ukraine, but I’d never call Eritreans pieces of shit for not caring enough about what I care about — especially when they’re just trying to survive and need resources to keep going.
This might be your number one issue — and that’s fine. But shaming people for carrying on with their own lives, when they’re already dealing with their own existential problems, is beyond retarded.
Very grateful to get this information but cannot understand how most of the world carries on life as if everything is normal.
