The Secretary of State has told the president that talks are happening with high-level Cuban officials. No such talks exist. Purported negotiations in Mexico? Actual fake news.
This is what elite impunity looks like in real time. Rubio isn’t just sabotaging diplomacy—he’s doing it behind a media shield that reflexively treats his lies as “serious policy disputes” instead of what they are: deliberate disinformation with catastrophic human consequences. Major outlets launder anonymous State Department spin, amplify garbage sourcing (14YMedio, Facebook posts, “senior officials”), and then move on, while an entire country is pushed toward energy collapse. And somehow Rubio—whose career has been shadowed by donor scandals, Miami machine politics, and a permanent regime-change fixation—never has to answer for it. No hearings. No accountability. No headlines asking why a cabinet secretary is lying to his own president to force starvation as policy. This isn’t foreign policy failure; it’s media complicity enabling corruption and cruelty, over and over again.
Do we need to begin all out campaign to bring clean energy resource to Cuba.? Wave power units that surround this Island Nation? Solar power from other, innovative sources and materials to build batteries in Cuba? Let's start a world-wide blockade busting effort to power essential resources to generate and transmit energy locally to towns and to Cuban hospitals, schools and industries. Workers and electricity users, unite!
Yes, help them! They are already trying, they need more investment to make the transition to all the types of renewable energy they can produce but they are already trying to develop biogas energy on farms. I believe China has recently stepped in to help develop solar energy. Cuba is in desperate need of help. Shortages of food, fuel and medicine, hours-long blackouts and plunging tourism and exports - combined with renewed U.S. sanctions under the second Trump administration - have devastated its economy
This is a great feature to update people who are interested and I wonder if wave energy, with small(er) technology options is the way to help the coastal cities in Cuba. Wave energy can be a regional source in an island nation and may help with energy generation that can be built by Cubans and used for industry and lighting in towns, with biogas fuels for cars and cooking. How can we help with materials and technology to connect ocean power with land needs? What can be done to break the sanctions and fund what is needed?Note DSA has national and local working groups on Cuba. Be in touch for information you have to help Cuba and DSA may help organize. Many people may join in helping.
Just briefly checked web re wave power generation around Cuba, apparently it’s moderate to limited. In terms of cost it’s high because of maintenance and weather turbulence in that area of the world - hurricanes I guess.
I wonder if contact with wave tech energy groups in Europe do fundraising for Cuban development ? I will look into it. I think that USA groups fear government reprisals if they do, but other nations, in Central and South America may be an option for production with backing from international funding from individuals around the world. Does anyone have suggestions about setting this up ? Cuba has supporters internationally, for private donors.
As I said, this has been investigated, and energy creation would only be medium to low, also the tech would be costly to maintain, bearing in mind their annual hurricane season. They are focusing on more productive sustainable energy generation
These excuses to not act to assist Cuba are not forwarded by the Chinese or people that Cubans have assisted in struggles in the past for health, environment and with education and other social and political issues. These are conditions faced by most small nations and are not excuses not to help. Ask any wave power generation project how they have adapted tech to respond to hurricaines. If problem is not solved yet ( and I think it is) you can bet they are working on it.
How often have we seen the same song and dance? Oppressing a poor nation to a breaking point then kicking them down harder while pretending to negotiate a total surrender 😱
Cuban dyspora: move on . You're USA citizens now so leave Cuba to Cubans. Enjoy you life style here in Miami and leave cuba to cuba. You all are eating well you're nice in comfi in your condos in Miami and enjoying your life. So why starve and freeze your kin folk in Cuba. Leave them alone or join them but stop persecuting them....they are your kin folks after all.
OMG - Run for your lives - it's Cuba !!! They could attack us with Lechón Asado (roasted pork), and Moros y Cristianos (black beans and rice), Cuban sandwiches, croquetas and pasteles.
Why, oh why have we tortured the poor Cubans for decades ? Are they going to attack us or what ? What have they done that they should be punished ?
How about close that despicable Guantanamo and let American tourists visit that beautiful (?) island and culture?
Little Marco probably has a handful of enemies in this administration, people who aren’t exactly rooting for him behind the scenes. If just one of those folks managed to reach the president and clue him in that he’s being misled, there’s a real chance this whole situation could come to an end.
On top of that, the president already has connections and some kind of presence in Cuba. If he sees an opportunity to make a profit, he won’t hesitate to sidestep Marco entirely and start some straightforward, honest negotiations himself. Money talks.

He's a diabolical and dangerous schemer who lusts after the top job, IMHO.
Agree

Cuba knows only too well its fuel vulnerability, and understands the need for clean energy in the world, Climate change is already affecting its farming. There’s a growing biogas energy production going on, but it’s small scale relying on family farms see https://capacity4dev.europa.eu/discussions/cubas-new-energy-revolution_en https://www.ifad.org/en/w/rural-voices/clean-energy-powers-rural-resilience-in-cuba

Strange there’s no funding/development partners looking at that if as you say it requires smaller technology ?

Little Marco had cajones. Big Guy got nothing in the drawer.
How does little Marco block a big guy?
