The Biden administration gave us the prolonged Ukraine proxy war, the Israeli Gaza genocide, and the collapse of the elected Pakistani government. What did I leave out? Oh, he failed to prosecute Trump’s attemped insurrection for three years while allowing him to run for another term in violation of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

Wow. This is a **big** read - in several senses of the term.

Two takeaways from my first read-through:

1) Western "democracy", as always, is being delivered to other parts of the world through very undemocratic processes. No thought whatsoever to the **human** impact of its policies.

2) The current military-controlled government of Pakistan is untrustworthy and unstable, therefore a very poor base for negotiations as consequential as those between the US and Iran - unless, Washington is not truly pursuing a negotiated settlement, which from my window, it isn't.

Jon Notabot mentioned there is much to unfold about leadership in Pakistan, especially for those of us who have not kept up with the recent events involving Khan and the military leadership that has emerged since his imprisonment. Thanks for the well-laid-out essay; it has helped clarify the how's and what's of what this means for Pakistan.

Much of what you write here appears unsubstantiated and seems to echo narratives advanced by Murtaza and Waqas, both of whom have consistently shown strong sympathy toward Imran Khan. I would hope you have enough contributors to assign Pakistan coverage to someone with greater balance and objectivity, because your credibility on Pakistan-related matters continues to erode.

Excellent reporting!

Excellent as always. Thank you. Reading this, it seems to me the ‘all will be forgiven’ is finally resolved; to me it reads as if it is linked to the report on Bajwa/SDC/JCSC position(now abolished)

Edit: no, I got the dates mixed up. The cipher is early march 2022. The meeting was Oct 2022.

What ‘all will be forgiven’, means, if not the trip explicitly? Why does it require such strong language? 🤔
