Nothing surprises me when it comes to politicians. Britain's Labour Government is participating in genocide because they feel impugn. It's impunity that we have to rid some powerful people of. The idea that IHL is flexible and can be bent to exclude tools for genocide is sickening. The dishonesty in our politics needs to be cleaned out and we desperately need new rules for politicians and voting and most importantly we need a ramped up UN that has sorted out the veto problem on the security council and some means to suspend members actively breaking international law.
Then we also need to do a better job with the ICC which as we all know is toothless, because it has no enforcement mechanism. Somehow that needs strengthening. Impunity will be a tough one to stamp out, but we need to try harder than ever before.
As for all these dodgy deals in weapons. It has been very sadly built into the Establishment of this country. We will never stop them all, but Palestine Action deserve our support for their great selfless work. The people locked up under terrorism legislation must be released now because of the recent evidence of the lack of separation of powers in this country. There has been unfair procedure. Weapons and other military hardware make the world's economies grow. Israel's is practically built on their surveillance and weapons sales. Then there is the illicit market in arms. Isn't that right Mr Blair?
The current sanctions are not enough and they are in breach of the Genocide Act. It is not down to them to decide the finer details of the law. The moment the ICJ ruled that there is a potential genocide, all states are obliged to suspend all business links and weapons transfers and start considering sanctions. The law is not hard to understand. Im not a lawyer but it seems crystal clear to me. They absolutely know what they are doing. Lammy and Starmer are murdering children and women in their thousands. They clearly have no conscience. That is disturbing. They may well be sociopaths.
Is GLAN back in court today? It must be soon? We have to win this case and then if the government still does't comply, then there has to be criminal repercussions to stamp out the scourge of impunity of our politicians.
I salute you Jane for your long and comprehensive discourse that embraces so much that many of us would like to articulate...thank you. I can barely operate a computer and do not understand what substack is or many of the means to express what I feel. I realise how valuable these rapid electronic means to communicate are but I still don't like them. I know that Starmer and Lammy are just useless lumps of lard and so many others too, but we know full well that virtually all politicians are compulsive liars and that is why I do not vote...none of the parties represent my standards. I foolishly cycled nine miles to celebrate with friends the removal of the Conservative Party years ago ...I didn't know that Blair was a warmonger at the time, and it wasn't long before I was on that large march in London on that cold February day where I witnessed the amusing slogan by a man and his little son..."Ripsnorter says No!" But they went on to bomb a milk factory along with many, many like- places and televised their evil campaign and subsequently lied about it. There is only one thing on earth that governments understand, and that is their sole objective, wealth and the power that goes with it, and that is emulated right through the stratum of all societies...see how it is glorified and worshipped and deified, although all the prophets including Christ deny that objective. Please forgive my seemingly pointless diatribe...but it isn't quite so meaningless because it reveals the reason that virtually all European nations were/are colonialists and still support exploitation when possible. Yes! money is behind it all...arms sales, trade wars etc etc. Somehow the completely erroneous assumption that rich people (or nations) are superior took root, but look at the USA...it has no power but the rapaciously stolen dollar...that's all! I appreciate that there are millions of wonderful Americans...who are misrepresented by their morally corrupt government, just as there are in all the world's nations (with less perhaps in terrorist Israel because of the radicalization and indoctrination) but there are wonderful people there too, as we frequently witness being abused while defending persecuted Palestinians... All power to the decent and kind- hearted everywhere, Free Palestine!
I shouldn’t worry about a lack of technical skills. I feel the same way. I couldn’t even tell you what substack is. I have only just dared to press the other symbols and at last I found a way to say, you are not alone with all this stuff. Im just too old. There was one computer at school apparently but I never found it! I know next to nothing worth knowing and stumble around a lot. Don’t know how I found Substack either. It might have been Owen Jones (always worth reading).
Thank you again Jane. I had struggled to post a lengthy condemnatory reply of our complicit government, and as I neared its end it mysteriously disappeared! I had mentioned that I had read in one of these truthful platforms (not the mainstream, deliberately censored British ones) that TWO children from Gaza had been admitted to medical care here...suffering, poor things, from serious congenital conditions. We of course hope they receive the urgent treatment they need, but they were selected over and above the thousands upon thousands of deliberately injured and traumatised children, because opening the humanitarian doors (and hearts) in the UK would be admitting that our government's ally had purposely inflicted this murderous campaign with this government's blessing...the killing innocent citizens and tutting quietly instead of intense rage and condemnation. But we will see, as we always do the incremental turn-coating as they attempt to convince everyone that their position was misrepresented etc etc. In the annuls of history all the UK's governments will be recorded as corrupt liars and pettifoggers hanging on to the USA's frock-coat tails.
