I found this interview very valuable since it helped me to understand what is happening in Germany. It is deeply ironic that Germany's desire to atone for the Holocaust is now the driving force behind Germany's support for Israel's efforts to exterminate the Palestinians. It is difficult for me to understand how this can happen since I find the "logic" behind it nonsensical! Thanks for this terrific piece of journalism.
It is not "logic" - it is emotion. a holocaust is a turning to ashes, The Shoah is absolute destruction. This contrast between Germany and Israel's actions, or rather, the similarity, demonstrates that this desire for genocide lies deep in all humanity (at least of European descent) and must be indentified, named and actively repressed every time it surfaces, which begins by "othering." With Palestine, we can say (yet again), never again, but remember that to do so requires constant vigilance.
