I was going to reference that familiar line “avoid all foreign entanglements” from George Washington, but evidently he never actually said those words, and his caveat in his “Farewell Address” was far more involved and nuanced than that. So I’ll try another approach, from medicine. What follows is from Mayoclinic.org:

“An arteriovenous malformation, also known as an AVM, is a tangle of blood vessels that creates irregular connections between arteries and veins. This disrupts blood flow and prevents tissues from receiving oxygen. An AVM can occur anywhere in the body, including in the brain.

“Arteries move oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the brain and other organs. Veins drain the oxygen-depleted blood back to the lungs and heart. When an AVM disrupts this critical process, surrounding tissues might not get enough oxygen.

“Because the tangled blood vessels in an AVM do not form properly, they can weaken and burst. If an AVM in the brain bursts, it can cause bleeding in the brain, which can lead to a stroke or brain damage.”

So there you have it, we are experiencing the disruption of critical processes of our government, our society, from the analogous AIM, the American-Israeli Malformation.

A relative has an AVM in the leg. Surgery was attempted to correct it many years ago, but it turned out to be so twisted, tangled, and intertwined that is was deemed inoperable. The only consequences have been to rule out a needed knee replacement and living with that discomfort, and a long scar.

The AIM is similarly inoperable, but its consequences for this country have already been serious, destructive, scarring, and many, and well stand to be fatal.
