Thank you for this news-and-analysis report, Murtaza.

Israel's "vision" for the nations around it, Syria in this case, is to make them desolate, and to weaken any military capabilities in those fractured areas.

Unfortunately, that has never really worked. And it likely will not work -- because Israel is seen (rightly) as a villainous and brutal nation by those around it. And the current multiple wars it is conducting -- Gaza, West Bank, Syria, Yemen, Iran -- are surely breeding more young militants in all those areas ready to take up arms against Israel.

You reap what you sow. Perpetual war is no solution. Unfortunately, the current Israeli leadership -- as evidenced by the quotes in this article -- is consumed with the lust for war. This too shall pass, God willing.

Thanks for a great piece on such a complex situation. Tragically, the secular society that existed is gone , Syria is, tragically, balkanized and destroyed.
